Richard was born October 12, 1943 in Sacramento and died May 2, 2011 in Wilton, CA. He is survived by his wife, Diane, and son Rick Jr., grandchildren Ricky III, and Eden, and sisters Mary Lou and Barbara. He was a Sacramento City Firefighter and Engineer for 30 years before retiring in 1997. Besides family, his passions were car racing and restoring old Chevrolets.
I was lucky to have Richard in several classes and got to sit by him in class several times. I remember him as a really nice guy who never said anything bad about anyone. I knew a bit about his homelife. As I remember his mom,on her own raised all 3 kids, including Barbara and Mary Lou- and she did a great job. The 3 got along very well ( I wish I had them as examples to my 2 wild grandkids who are always picking on and bad mouthing each other). I remember a kind of rumpus room on their premises which made for nice gathering of friends. The Mandonca's welcomed friends into their home regularly.
I respect Richard for being a firefighter. It must have taken a lot of education and skill to achieve that profession. I had a nephew strong and smart who tried for several years to become a firefighter, but it was just too demanding.
I am sorry Richard won't be at the reunion. Maybe this is an additional reason to attend as how many of us may not be around for the 60th?
Condolences to Richard's family, especially his wife and two kids. I am sure he was a great dad and husband.
