Kathy and I remained good friends after high school. We attended the 10th year reunion together with our husbands. Shortly after that she was coming home from a vacation with her husband and two little children. An accident caused by a drunk driver forced their car off the road and it overturned into a canal. Her huband was able to get the two children out and to safety but was not able to get Kathy's seatbelt undone to rescue her. Her husband eventually remarried their daughter's 1st grade teacher.
