Dick Miller: Lost a dear friend. Had a lot of fun with Bob in high school. Together with Barney Scollan, we were roommates at Cal. He was a kind and thoughtful person. I will miss him greatly!
To know Bob was a blessing. He just loved people and his life work reflects that love. I could never get past Bob Saunders smile. It would just stop me in my tracks walking down the halls of McClatchy. He had to be one of the most likeable guys ever. He always had a kind word and seemed so glad to see and talk to me. I will always remember Bob with fondness. Lynn Chambers Siebert.
The term "nice guy" is tossed around. Ever wonder it's origin? Bob Saunders, an intelligent, kind, sensitive, caring, humorous boy to man. He was the original nice guy in the best of ways.
My thanks to whomever set up this McClatchy website so that we have the opportunity to open our hearts to one another and share our thoughts and feelings with one another which helps to lighten our heavy hearts; also, it is nice to hear about our friend's and fellow student's birthdays when they arise annually ( even though most of us would prefer not to grow older).😊>
I am so sad to hear about Bob; I've been following him on Facebook for the past couple of years and did not even realize he was ill since he seemed to travel quite a bit to scenic places and leave fun commentaries. My condolences to his family members and his sister, Linda. Both Bob and Linda had such friendly personalities, had positive attitudes, and had the most wonderful smiles!!!!!
My memories of Bob go back to 7th grade. He loved to tell me at every reunion that he was my first kiss. We were so shy we hid in a closet. He was a great friend and we both ended up living in Washington but opposite sides of the state.
Bob's death is truly a loss, very sad to learn of his illness and passing - one of the super good guys! We were buddies, lots of jitterbugging at Friday night frat dances, we had the distinction of spending the night at " juvie" along with Me, Susan Bukey, and Bill Cook after we totaled his mom's new car on Pocket Road. We were detained for being out after curfew.....I was ever greatful that he asked me to walk the stage w him at graduation - he was class President and we went first! We were the fast to peel off the black robes. It was 115 degrees outside that day! At our 50th reunion we connected again, we had to chuckle as we were still one of the few progressive dems in a sea of, well you know. I was in Spain when I heard the news. I thought of him often and other friends that are no longer with us. I was hiking the Camino, stopping along the way to contemplate life and death. RIP Bob! ♥️
